Dr Anthony Hunt

 

 

Anthony Hunt graduated from Oxford and spent the next 21 years teaching at St Andrews. He then spent the next 21 years as French Fellow at St Peter's College, Oxfordshire

 

Tony was elected a Fellow of the British Academy, and a Foreign Member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters. He was also made Officier dans l'Ordre des Palmes Academiques by the French Government.

 

He claims to have published “inordinately”, often on Anglo-Norman, I.e the French of England, which he has taught for 42 years. His talk to the Club in October 2015 was entitled

 

What's interesting about French in Medieval England”

 

His amusing and enlightening talk aimed at explaining what Anglo-Norman is. We were given fascinating examples of how the French language influenced, and continues to influence our language right up to the present time.
